Probate
The formalised process of dealing with someone’s assets after they have passed away is known as probate and the executors of the estate will normally be responsible for enacting the required processes. The best way to ensure the authorities will accept any valuation of property you put before them is to ensure that this is undertaken by a surveyor who is also an RICS registered valuer.
This surveyor will need to comply with all the rules and regulations defined by the RICS red book and the surveyors professional qualifications and experience are much more likely to be acceptable to HMRC than a valuation prepared by an unqualified surveyor or in some cases an estate agent.
